Welcome and thank you for joining us for the 2014 combined Federal Campaign national international application training my name is Curtis rumbaugh and I'm with the US Office of Personnel Management which is the federal agency that oversees the program this afternoon I'm going to walk you through the requirements to participate in the program show you some of these specific items that will be reviewing in the application itself and hopefully help you understand some of the requirements as well as common mistakes that have been made that you would be able to avoid before we get into the application requirements itself I just want to give you a brief overview of the history of the program prior to the 1960s there were no rules related to raising funds in the federal workplace charities were able to come into federal buildings and solicit employees at any time this led to a very disruptive environment and it also did not raise the amount of funds that the charities were hoping for so in the 1950s the Eisenhower administration formed a commission to study ways that this could be improved and they did this by consolidating different types of charities into solicitation periods in different parts of the year this was an improvement but it would did not quite achieve the the goal of the campaign so in 1961 president john f kennedy signed an executive order creating a combined federal campaign essentially combining all solicitations into one period each year this required that all charitable organizations meet the eligibility criteria set by the Office of Personnel Management and then employees may voluntarily elect to make a contribution to the charity of their choice currently the CFC is the only authorized solicitation of federal employees for monetary contributions in the federal government as I mentioned earlier the US Office of Personnel Management is the agency responsible for the program OPM is the or the federal agencies or federal government's Human Resources Agency and the CFC is seen as an employee benefit that applies to all federal agencies and as such it is part of OPM and finally last year in 2012 the CFC raised more than 258 million dollars for more than 800,000 federal employees over the course of our 50 years of solicitations we have raised more than 7.2 billion dollars on behalf of charitable organizations so as you can see federal employees are quite generous and the CFC has been a great conduit for charitable organizations as well as a tool for federal employees to use to funnel their funds to the charities of their choice now the CFC application itself consists of five documents that you must provide to us the court document is the application form that form can be downloaded from our website which is WWE ppv FC you'll see there is a link on the left-hand side that says information for charities when you click on that there are applications there today's application training
